Hello everybody! It's me, the native to the Game Ideas wiki and the Super Mario wiki. (Also part of the Epic Saga wiki, the sketch pad wiki, the Mario wiki, the made-up Mario wiki, the Nitrome wiki, and a couple others that I made my mark once and then left.) I... mainly work at the Game Ideas wiki as an admin. Being a tiny wiki, there is plenty of work to do. Even so, the current workers are passionate, and ready to grow the wiki to where it should be.

I am working on the massive project of changing a few tiny things on the main page to give it the feel of a video game. Really clever concept, but very, very hard to carry out. For your enjoyment of context, my main page is here, and the best representation of what I want the page to look like is here. All failures can be scavenged here, though looking there is unnecessary, unless you know how to help (but then I'll find it for you.

I began this project a while ago. I started with the idea of making the main page look like the start page of a normal video game and having major pages break off to give new users context and allow gamers to feel at home. At first I wanted the five pages to be normal main page width, but wikia didn't seem to like that idea for layout reasons. Search the web, nope, can't figure it out.

Next idea: scrap that and leave it for a while. Time passes. Collapsible content?
Tabs allow collapsible content. Mainpage only allows source mode. (The other users can't really edit). So, I templated everything. Didn't do much, but was better. Announcements look really cool when coding the main page, though.
Tab view allows that. Needs full pages, cannot have tab view/any slider or gallery inside.
Other collapsible things. Like the NIWA wikis, nav boxes! The css/js doesn't work on mine. MEGA SIGH! (I also can't seem to have anything work when put into those pages)

Hey, can I solve the problem of making sure the user sees what I want them to see right away?

Ads, warnings, toolbars change the height of the screen and mess up where my pictures start. Decide on where the scroll bar scrolls to? Every user has different preferences.

So, css lets me decide where the text appears over my pic. Changes based on the above reasons. So, put it all into a parent container with the picture. That leaves me with no hope of deciding where the background pic that shows to the right and left of the content lines up. It could look good, it could look TERRIBLE. And that isn't something I want to risk.

I've tried to make the game screen picture be a fixed location within a boundary. No dice.

How about a preview for a picture? Click a tiny thumbnail, it enlarges to show a clearer version. Could it show a massive picture that covers the whole page like I want it to? Not on this coding language's life...

I tried to make the landing page an autoplay page(article size) that would have a link to the main page (mainpage size). The logo would redirect to the mainpage. However, changing what the logo links to changes everything. New mainpage with width, etc. Awful.
Main page a redirect to auto play page, which features link back to the main page. However, redirects will not allow content on the page beyond the redirect notice. It shows up in the editor, not on the page.

And after this description of events, this may not be a complete list. There may be some things I forgot while describing what I've done until now. And I don't know what to do now.

Option one, continue with how the new page I was making looks and work from there.

Option two, get major help with any road I've tried before.

Option three, get crazy inspiration like how I have until now. (I have a slight reputation of doing that. Like attempting console game styled games with Visual Basic. Laugh all you want, but I did fairly well making a program that couldn't figure it's way out of a paper bag with a GPS, a map, and a sign that pointed the right way.)

Option four, with the stuff I have started most recently and the new mainpage, have the normal mainpage nice like I started, then have people link to an extra landing page with the auto play stuff. And maybe find an experienced mentor in the process.

But one way or another, I need help. If anyone can, I'd be super grateful. I've been working at this for a long time. But have a better day than I'm having! Later, Geniusguy445 (talk)

AnywaysEdit

It looks better now. I uses a bit of css, but flows with the page. most content is in tab viewer. looks nice.

Javascript & CssEdit

Does anyone know how to work it? It doesn't seem to like me much. Expandable navigation menus never work, and i don't know how to have Javascript reference a page at a time. These are my current problems. Geniusguy445 (talk) "Oh wait, this isn't the camera."

Actually, I got them. No worries. Genius "Busier than I look" Guy #445 (talk) 03:07, April 25, 2012 (UTC)
