Here are the latest technical updates at Wikia. Keep in mind that our system updates happen every Tuesday and Thursday - today's notes are for tomorrow's site update. Also note that we change hundreds of tiny details every week, so these are just the highlights.
Tomorrow, we will be launching a new feature called Insights on all English-language communities. Insights is designed to help editors find easy ways to contribute to a community, using a variety of automated sources of data.
You can read more about how the feature works here: Help:Insights. We are working on further improvements to the tool, and we'd love to hear your feedback, issues or suggestions - please let us know via Special:Contact/feedback!
Note that the tool is currently only available in English on English-language communities, but we anticipate launching in other languages in the very near future.
Major Bugs Fixed
- An issue that caused text to appear with broken encoding on some non-English communities (e.g. appearing as diamonds) has been fixed, and we have already begun regenerating affected text.
Other Notable Changes
Detailed CSS updates can be found at http://report.wikia.net - the diffs show changes to .css, .scss, .tmpl.php, .html, .sass and .mustache files in Wikia's codebase.
- Emails will receive several more tweaks, including: the main button will now visibly react to cursor interaction and has been moved slightly to improve how it displays on smaller devices. We've also made some tweaks to email subjects about anonymous edits.
- For communities previously beta testing the Insights feature, two updates will be noticeable in tomorrow's release: we are adding pagination to the list of results, along with page view data (based on the last week of visits).
