Not only do Wikia's collaborative writing projects inspire entertaining stories rife with suspense and dramatic tension, they illustrate the collaborative spirit of Wikia's impassioned user base and the platform's unique ability to engage fans in creative ways.
Now, Wikia is trying something new to further bridge the divide between fans and creators. The Masters of Animanga project has anime and manga's most renowned figureheads providing original art, characters, and story outlines to set the stage for a trio of new collaborative writing projects. With the Masters of Animanga CWP, users aren't only collaborating with one another -- they're collaborating with the masters themselves. It's a one of a kind opportunity for fans of anime and manga to play a principal role in the creative process, transcending fan fiction to help build something striking, entertaining and -- above all -- completely original.
The Fading Light: A Tale of Zan, the third and final story in Wikia's Masters of Animanga series comes courtesy of legendary artist Yoshitaka Amano (Vampire Hunter D, Final Fantasy), and it is in the form of an iconic samurai character who first appeared in Amano's graphic novel Deva Zan! The story is executive produced by Kazuo Koike (Lone Wolf and Cub, Lady Snowblood).
The Fading Light: A Tale of Zan has been live since Monday, September 23rd, and there has already been a flurry of activity. For a recap of Part 1, click here! Keep reading for a summary of what's happened since then.
Zan's fight with the Black Knight quickly ended with the help of Panther, but realizes Yumoa left Virginia alone when the latter shows up to help him. While the two are gone, the Order of Ma'riana kidnap Virginia, but Shokuro helps direct Zan to her. When Zan reaches the girl, Chataway and Ryuunosuke also show up with the latter thinking that Zan is actually his enemy and the two begin to duel! The hooded man and Chataway are nearby watching the fight, but when the samurai are transported (by Pikapwn, the hooded man follows them into Meiji Era Japan.
Elsewhere, Amyar has another version of Virginia training in the wilderness with her butler, Charles, who reveals that he is actually a purple Hokkaido wolf called Yushin and that Shokuro is actually named Yako. Back with the younger Virginia that got left behind during the fight, Chataway tries to kidnap her, but she pulls out a dagger to defend herself!
Amyar then adds more backstory saying that Mar'riana used to be a regular fish who happened to swallow the star of Amaterasu that warped him. He was transformed into the statue Chataway found during a battle with Amaterasu and her disciples, and it seems that Virginia (the star) is key to his plans...
Thanks to Ezvil, Yumoa stops the fight between Zan and Ryuunosuke and prevents the mysterious hooded man from hurting either of them, but their argument is completely stopped only by the appearance of an older Virginia and another Panther. While they are talking, the hooded man is revealed to be Fuzen by CenturyOfChaos and he almost attacks them before being called away by Mar'riana.
After the enemy is gone, Anonymius reveals that Virginia is "the star of the heavens," a powerful fallen star that can be used to destroy both Heaven and Earth, which is why Mar'riana wants her. According to Zeromaro, Chataway and the fish plan to take stars from different Virginias across different timelines! With this being said, the group travels through time again to save the younger Virginia that Chataway confronted!
After knocking the man unconscious to save Virginia, a surprising turn of events happens when Zeromaro decides to have Yako kill Mar'riana in the Dark Trench! Instead of ending things, a glowing orb drops from the fish to Lord Chataway, which turns the latter into a monster: a giant, bright green snake with a hundred spiked tails and a hundred heads! Anonymius then includes that a tear in reality has formed, and, as chaos breaks out, DragonKnight99 begins the fight between Zan, Ryuunosuke, and Virginia and their new enemy, the newly transformed Lord Chataway!
