Video games are very important to me, and hopefully for a lot of you too. In this blog I'm going to be talking about games that "changed my gaming life" - as in games that have had some kind of impact on me and either how I view games as a whole, or just something that I've spent a lot of time with and it's something that's special to me.

This list is intentionally in no particular order. Also, there won't be spoilers in the subheadings, because if you haven't played these games I urge you to, and doing it spoiler free is much more fun.

When I was growing up, I had a Playstation (there's an Alternative Universe where I had an N64 and I'd be talking about Mario and Zelda games in this spot). The Crash Bandicoot series was the game I kept goi…

Hey all, last week I talked about how to help people out on Community Central, and I'm going to continue that topic this week with the best ways to get helped on Community Central (or Wikia in general). Hopefully you'll find these tips handy for yourself, and you might want to share them with other people if they're having trouble getting the help they need on Wikia.

Unless it's a very specific thing you need help with, it's best to ask everyone you can. Often times I see people join chat and say "is anyone an expert in JavaScript here". That's probably not going to get a very good response, some people are good at small parts of JavaScript, but might not want to volunteer to help with something that isn't their speciality. It's much better…

Hi all, I've decided (for the time being) to do a weekly blog on Community Central. This'll hopefully cover a whole host of topics, mostly related to Wikia but perhaps sometimes I'll veer off into personal things, or whatever else I feel like writing about that week. They should come out every Monday, so feel free to nag me if you don't see them.

To start this series off, I want to talk about how best to help out on Central. I've been an admin on Community Central for almost 5 years, and in those years things have changed a lot. In my opinion those changes have been really positive, and have helped Central evolve into a place to ask questions, and get answers from Staff and the Community.

Community Central is a great place to go to ask for h…

Hi everyone. This blog's going to be a short guide on how best to attribute other people's work that you're importing to your wiki.

Most wikis on Wikia are licensed under a CC-BY-SA license. This means that any original work on the wiki is free to be shared and adapted on other places that also use that license.

Wikia's licensing page states "If you import text under a compatible license which requires attribution, you must, in a reasonable fashion (including by one of the attribution methods described below), credit the author(s). Where such credit is commonly given through page histories (such as copying within Wikia), it is sufficient to give attribution in the edit summary, which is recorded in the page history, when importing the text.". …

Hey all. This blog is a quick FYI on unofficial Wikia community groups.

For background, community central is an official wiki, it's ran by Wikia and Admins and Mods are chosen by staff. By contrast, the Wikia community channels I'm listing are unofficial, ran by Wikians according to their rules, but as general purpose hang out areas for the Wikia community. Most of them were made before chat was a feature on Wikia, and so there was a greater need to have a way of communication with Wikians. Some of them can be useful on mobile devices (where we can't get to chat), and they're also useful because you can send a message (public/private) to someone who's offline, and they'll get it later.

IRC is a text-based chat platform. Way way back, Wikia u…
