Technical Update: November 9, 2015

Here are the latest technical updates at Wikia. Keep in mind that our system updates happen every Tuesday and Thursday - today's notes are for tomorrow's site update. Also note that we change hundreds of tiny details every week, so these are just the highlights.

Major Bug Fixes

• An issue that caused some videos not to show thumbnails was fixed late last week. Additionally, uploaded OGV videos no longer show 'broken' thumbnails - instead, they simply show the file name above the play button.
• We recently rolled out a fix that should reduce or eliminate the issue of article content sometimes showing as blank. If you see new examples, please do let us know. Note: this issue can be quickly fixed by editing and saving the page.

Detailed CSS updates can be found at http://report.wikia.net - the diffs show changes to .css, .scss, .tmpl.php, .html, .sass and .mustache files in Wikia's codebase.

• In case you missed this news: for security reasons, the Help:Verbatim feature has been retired. Please see this forum thread for more details on why this change was made, and how to deal with it.
• The "Mark all pages from my Weekly Digest as visited" preference is being removed as it has not had an effect for some time. The weekly digest always marks the listed pages as visited - this makes it harder to lose track of article updates when you don't visit a page for a while.
