Linux and MAC Presentation

Linux and MAC Presentation

Two of the most known computer operating systems are Linux and MAC. In order to determine which operating system is more conducive in the classroom, one must analyze the elements of Linux and MAC.

Features of MAC

  •  Easy organization and locating documents.
  • Built on a strong UNIX foundation.
  • All aspects of operating system work together without difficulty.
  • Designed to encrypt, update, and keep MAC safe on a consistent basis.
  • Long battery life with advanced-power saving technologies.
  • Compatible with Windows.
  • Supports people with disabilities with built in assistive technologies.
  • Optimized for high-resolution retina display.

Features of Linux

  • Runs on a variety of hardware platforms (e.g., Alpha Power PC, x 86 PCs, and IBM).
  • Open system where various companies can modify features of Linux.
  • Stable, cost effective, and secure.
  •  Capable of networking and developing software.
  • Only accessible if source code remains available.
  • Page size will vary based off of structure.
  • Created via a terminal application.

Rationale

If given a choice, educators should strive to implement the use of MAC operating systems. From an educational standpoint, MAC provides various benefits in support of learning in the classroom. Scholars can interact with educational learning apps via an iMac or iPad. In today’s society, educational technology consistently evolves. With this in mind, educational apps developed and released from MAC engage scholars across various learning styles. This might be in the form of solving math problems via Math apps, building sentences and working with vocabulary via Language Arts apps, or practicing comprehension skills and being exposed to a variety of genres via Reading apps. Overall, if instruction in the classroom is supported for 21st Century purposes, educational apps will maintain the attention of all learners involved. To the contrary, Linux would not support instruction in the classroom since Linux is still up and coming with regard to popularity and growth. In the future, Linux might have the capability of supporting learning in the classroom. This will only be attainable if educational software programs are developed in relation to 21st Century Skills.

I chose this particular web tool for the purpose of blogging. I have found educational blogs to be beneficial toward professional development. If we encounter a particular struggle, chances are others have encountered a similar struggle. With this in mind, we can utilize the Internet to search for a question in relation to solutions or reasoning behind an educational topic. After all, it is nice to read testimonies written and shared by other educators.
