Hey Everyone, I’m Tucker! I am working at Wikia this summer as part of the Community Development team in San Francisco. San Francisco is Wikia’s home base and I wanted to give everyone a little peek inside the Wikia offices.
In January of this Year, the Wikia offices moved just up the street to a new home in the SoMa neighborhood of San Francisco. The new offices retain a lot of the same character, but are serving the growing company better than before. For many users, their impressions of the Wikia offices come from earlier pictures or Michael Cooksey’s admin visit series. When I first saw the offices, they were certainly not what I expected, so today, I’m here to take you on a tour of the new Wikia offices.
This is the first view most Wikia staff members get when entering the office every morning. The Wikia office’s lobby is complete with couches, tables, chairs, and a highlight reel from previous conventions and events, such as San Diego Comic-Con and E3, that Wikia has attended.
Near the front entrance lies Wikia’s Wall of Fandom. It contains items from all walks of fandom brought in by Wikia Staff members. Each staff member based in the San Francisco office has an item from their fan communities sitting on those shelves.
These are the Community Development Pods. These style pods are typical throughout the office. Both the International and the English speaking San Francisco based “ComDevians” sit here. My desk is the one on the far left. If you are ever invited to visit, you’ll probably see familiar faces from the community both here in the Community Development pods and next door at the Community Support pods.
This is the kitchen area at the Wikia office in San Francisco, the kitchen area is very much like a central gathering place for many of the staff members during lunch hours and after work. My personal favorite parts of the kitchen are the drink fridges which have an endless supply of iced tea.
The Wikia office has over 20 conference rooms all with various names relating to different parts of Fandom. Some of my favorite room names are “Ministry of Magic,” “King’s Landing,” “Narnia,” and “Crystal Tokyo.” Here you can see about 5 of the various conference rooms present at the Wikia offices.
