    Hey! This is Thisismyrofl, a former admin here on Community Central. I wanted to see if I could explain the difference between the three default styles of Template:Infobox, that is, the old style and the old new style and the "portable" new style.

    I'm referring here to the default styles, that is, those that were on the Starter Pages Wiki's Template:Infobox page. Since every newly created wiki, at the time of its creation, is given a copy of every page and template on Starter Pages Wiki, that means that there are thousands of wikis that came with the old style, and thousands founded after September 2012 that came with the old new style, and thousands still founded after October 2015 with the "portable" new style. The differences between the three styles are…

    Hey! This is Thisismyrofl, an admin here on Community Central. I wanted to see if I could explain how to use the new style of Template:Infobox (new as in September 2012). On your right, you see a basic infobox made in the new infobox format. We'll learn how to make an infobox of our own to meet our specific needs!

    This proposal is adapted from my similar proposal at Wikipedia.

    I want to suggest a new namespace for use on Wikias. The new namespace would be called "Documentation".

    There are two fundamental components of an article:

    • content page, and a
    • talk page for discussion.

    This pattern applies to most namespaces. But for a template, there are instead three fundamental components:

    • template code, which is the actual wikitext and parameters, etc, to be transcluded into any number of articles
    • template documentation, which describes the template, why it's needed, how to use it
    • the talk page for discussion

    Somewhere in the development of wikis, these three unique components have been squished into space for two components: the code-and-documentation, and the talk page…

    Hey! This is Thisismyrofl, a former admin here on Community Central. I wanted to see if I could explain how to make an infobox in the "portable" new style of Template:Infobox.

    Making an infobox can seem intimidating at first but it's not too hard! Let's do it. First, let's decide where we want the infobox to be. Once we have a bare-bones infobox at that location, we can customize it to our needs.

    The whole point of the new infobox system is that you don't directly use Template:Infobox, but rather, you copy it to a new location and adapt it. L…

    Hey! This is Thisismyrofl, a former administrator of Community Central. I had an idea for a way we could help new users find pages on their wiki. "How do I find Special:Listusers on my wiki?" is a common question - it seems like such a simple thing to a pro, but for new users sometimes it'd just be easier to give a clickable link.

    This came to my mind when I was writing my earlier blog about infoboxes (you should totally check it out btw!). I can link to the page Template:Infobox on this wiki, Community Central, but if I'm instead discussing the equivalent page on the reader's wiki, which I don't universally know the URL of, I could only give a flimsy "Template:Infobox on your wiki |}

    I ended up doing this multiple times in one blog, which was kin…
